Three great geometrical glass compositions, designed to perfection describe this beautiful architectural structure in the heart of Guatemala’s Zona Viva (Zone 10). Renowned architecture firm, Solares & Lara, designed the outsides of the building so that the postmodern visual display would create an infinite skyline. The use of blue tone glass extenuates the presence of the structure, symbolizing the importance of this business landmark to the country.

Murano Center is located in the main commercial, business and financial area of Guatemala City. STRUCTURAL DESCRIPTION
Murano Center Structure is made up of reinforced ducted concrete, with a combined system of frames and walls. The inner floors are aligned to perfection using prefabricated concrete floor, which was applied using “topping” techniques.
SEISMIC CHARGES
The seismic regulations have been approved by Applied Technology Council ATC3-06.Rev.1982. An important seismic deformality was taken into consideration when the building was built. The post-elastic seismic deformation limit was set at 150% during the design process, along with a 0.33% first movement deformation data of the same test. There are no buildings near the sides of the structure; no impact related problems were encountered.
DESIGN CRITERIA
The building’s design was conducted under the resistance method (strength design) enforced by the American Concrete Institute ACI 318. The seismic regulations were made under the ATC 3-06 regulations.(Earthquake Spectra Vol. 2 No. 3 y Vol. 2 No. 4, Park & Poulay, 1986).
ELECTRICITY
All electrical installations within the building were guided by the Dirección General de Obras Públicas, (NEC),EEGSA, and GUATEL. The building has both Tri phase and physical ground connections.
ELECTRIC SUB STATION
Capacity of 750 KVA, primary voltage of 13,200 volts and secondary of 120/208 volts with landed neutral connection.
EMERGENCY ELECTRICAL GENERATOR
Diesel Generator: capable of maintaining current during a loss of normal electrical power. Producing 600KW, for emergency purposes making it possible to operate the building at 100%. The power delay is fast action power taking no more than 15 sec to activate. Lighting services are available within the buildings exits, basement floors and commercial areas.
WATER SERVICE
The water within the building is supplied by it’s own underground water deposit that works together with the top water reservoir. All floors are equipped with water extinguishers in case of an emergency.
ELEVATORS
The buildings has 4 modern traction DOVER elevators with stainless steel finishes, with a total capacity of 2,500 lbs each one. A cruising speed of 540 ft per minute. All elevators are maintained by the provider on a regular basis.
BROAD BAND SERVICES AND COMMUNICATIONS
New Com Guatemala S.A. provides with the infrastructure to allow easy internet access to all tenants. The services capable of Video Conferencing, Data Transmition, and Land Line Telephone service. This company does not own the exclusive rights to the buildings Broad Band Services and Communications infrastructure, so if another company wants to offer these services they are able to do so under the buildings Administration offices approval.
SECURITY AND FIRE SYSTEMS
Short circuit camera systems are installed within the building, all are equipped with digital surveillance technology. Commercial areas, elevators, Parking lots, and common areas are kept on watch at all times. Fire safety is important to us, this is why Murano Center has Fire Alarm systems installed in the building. 1 central panel, 2 alarm key alerts, 150 smoke detectors, 20 manual stations, 3 light and siren alarms and 1 telephone dialer installed in each area within the offices, commercial shops, basement floors, parking lots, water deposits, machine room, and monitoring center directed to the Fire Department. All staff is trained for any emergency at all times.
